John Huff had back surgery, which unfortunately led to an infection.
When Huff came to Life Care Center of Blount County in Louisville, Tennessee, for rehabilitation on Sept. 5, 2019, he was unable to walk, stand, bathe himself or dress himself. He needed extensive assistance for bed mobility, getting in and out of bed, sitting balance and daily hygiene tasks.
Physical and occupational therapists worked with Huff on strengthening exercises for his lower body, as well as gait training and balance training.
“With care and therapy, John has been able to beat all odds,” said Drew Kimsey, director of rehab at the facility. “He started with total care, and after 100 days, he is able to walk and do self-care, a miracle many people thought was impossible.”
Through his work with the Life Care team, Huff qualified for the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, a specialty rehab center for spinal cord injuries, brain injuries and stroke. He moved to this next step in his journey on Dec. 12.
